Where: Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 Woodward Ave., Detroit Much of this exhibition is drawn from the DIA’s collection and contains prints by John Sloan, George Bellows, Glenn O. Coleman and Martin Lewis. Their images depict casual, daily life, featuring people at the circus, beach, boxing matches, reading, walking, dancing or relaxing, among other activities. Individual images by other artists will be displayed around these works, as well as colorful lithographs created by Edward Penfield and William Carqueville for magazines. The exhibition also features works from the late 1930s by artists who were employed through the Works Progress Administration, a federal economic relief program. Start: 10:00 am

Kenro Izu: Sacred Places features more than 50 black-and-white photographs of spiritual sites around the world. The majority of the exhibition consists of images of Buddhist and Hindu sites in India, the Himalayas, Indonesia, Thailand and China, among other places. The exhibition also includes images of the pyramids of Giza in Egypt and the stone statues on Easter Island, as well as photos of sacred sites in Syria, Jordan and Scotland. Start: 10:13 am
