Much of this exhibition is drawn from the DIA’s collection and contains prints by John Sloan, George Bellows, Glenn O. Coleman and Martin Lewis. Their images depict casual, daily life, featuring people at the circus, beach, boxing matches, reading, walking, dancing or relaxing, among other activities. Individual images by other artists will be displayed around these works, as well as colorful lithographs created by Edward Penfield and William Carqueville for magazines. The exhibition also features works from the late 1930s by artists who were employed through the Works Progress Administration, a federal economic relief program.

Gabriel’s Garden of Romeo hosts its sixth annual outdoor celebration of the fragrant perennial, whose flowers and essential oils are used as a natural disinfectant, insect repellent, relaxant and digestive aid. Kenro Izu: Sacred Places features more than 50 black-and-white photographs of spiritual sites around the world. The majority of the exhibition consists of images of Buddhist and Hindu sites in India, the Himalayas, Indonesia, Thailand and China, among other places. The exhibition also includes images of the pyramids of Giza in Egypt and the stone statues on Easter Island, as well as photos of sacred sites in Syria, Jordan and Scotland.

Considering Detroit, MOCAD’s latest exhibition, will explore contemporary art in the Detroit area. The exhibition, the first in a series, aims to document the recent history of the region’s art, according to MOCAD. Various artists and groups, such as Ellen Cantor, Maurice Greenia, Jim Gustafson, Allie McGhee, Heather McGill, Gordon Newton and artist collective TIME STEREO, will be highlighted in the 2008 exhibition. Works to be displayed include drawings, videos and installations, among other things.

100 artists were given a 14x21 inch frame to fill as they desired. The exhibit is a collection of works in many mediums, from acrylic to mixed media and beyond from local metro Detroit artists who took the gallery up on its challenge.
